AmeriCredit Financial Services

Americredit Auto LoansAmeriCredit, an arm of GM Financial Services, offers sub-prime auto loan options to dealers across the nation. AmeriCredit focuses on the sub-prime market and ancillary loan products in order to offer buyers the best service possible. The headquarters of AmeriCredit are located in Fort Worth, Texas, though they serve customers through a national network of dealerships.

AmeriCredit Auto Loans

AmeriCredit only offers its services directly to automobile dealerships. In order to qualify, a buyer must be willing to allow a dealership to arrange their financing (dealer financing). AmeriCredit offers auto loans for credit scores of 500 all the way up to 800 through thousands of dealerships across the United States.

Even though AmeriCredit specializes in sub-prime auto loans, it does not offer financing in an irresponsible manner. Potential buyers must meet a set of guidelines in order to qualify for a loan. At a minimum, those guidelines include: verifiable income, submission to a credit check, no recent repossessions, proof of full coverage insurance on the financed vehicle, and proof of employment.

AmeriCredit also offers ancillary products that include AmeriPlus™ GAP and VSC. AmeriPlus GAP is a gap insurance policy designed so that:

”If a total loss occurs, AmeriPlus GAP will pay the difference between the actual cash value of the vehicle and the current outstanding balance on the customer’s loan or lease.”

AmeriPlus VSC is a service contract program that is designed  to protect customers in the event that repairs are required after the expiration date/mileage of the manufacturer’s original warranty. AmeriCredit touts both policies as being very simple to understand, lacking the hidden clauses that make other products confusing and inferior.

Current Direction

AmeriCredit has been servicing the sub-prime auto finance market for over twenty years with the vision of being a leader in the industry. The company believes that:

”All dealers, regardless of manufacturer alliances, are critical to the success of our business and we’re dedicated to helping you sell more vehicles.”

The purchase of AmeriCredit by General Motors in 2010 and subsequent name change to General Motors Financial Company, Inc. (GM Financial) has not changed that vision and drive.
